Second day of Diwali Festival: Kali Chaudas

In my Last post, we spoke about the first day of Diwali:DhanTeras. Now we will move forward to 2nd Day of Diwali Festival known as Kali Chaudas.

What does Kali Chaudas mean?

Kali Chaudas is also known as Bhut Chaturdashi. Kali Chaudas as the name indicates is dedicated to Goddess Kali and is observed on the 14th day of Ashwin month mainly in Gujarat. The auspicious day, which falls a day before Diwali, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Mahakali.

Narak Chaturdashi is observed on Kali Chaudas day usually.
Kali means Dark (evil) and Chaudas - Fourteenth. Thus,Kali Chaudas is celebrated on 14th day of Ashwin, Kali Chaudas is the day allotted to the worship of Maha-Kali or Shakti and is believed that on this day Kali killed the wicked Raktavija.


What people do on Kali Chaudas?

On this day mostly Gujarati people makes vada of Udad daal and place on the Crossing where four road meets. The belief behind this ritual is evil energy will leave our home and we will live happily.

This year Kali Chaudas comes on Oct 29, 2016, and the day is Saturday
